1968 World Surfing Champion
In January 1965, he became the youngest person to win the Makaha Senior Men’s International Surfing Championship. In 1968, he was crowned the World Surfing Champion in Rincon, Puerto Rico. Hemmings was inducted into the International Surfing Hall of Fame in 1991. Hemmings is currently a member of the Hawaii State Senate.
